Russ continued his epic journey through Central America and as a typical man if he sees a mountain or in this case a volcano, he has to climb it and boy are we glad he did. Some smashing pictures were sent back.

Russ begins the long climb up to the crater at the top of Ipala volcano

Russ reaches the top of Ipala volcano and suddenly realises how big a task he’s about to take
on.

About to start the swim across the crater lake Russ makes a valiant effort to get out of the ordeal.

He couldn’t escape it though, and eventually made it back across the lake,  having well and truly earned his dinner!

“Race to Dakar was hard and fun... Like climbing this volcano and swimming the lake in the crater!!!”

“Walking up Ipala to the crater which has a fresh water lake in it.. 400 metres across.. Swam it!!! My legs ache.”
