Macchu Picchu
Cusco is a truly magical place, set high in the Andean Mountains and steeped in history. It was a meeting place for the Inca elders and later became an important town for the Spanish conquistadors. Most visitors use it as a stopping point for the Inca trail but I think it is well worth spending a week or 2 here if you have the time. When I was there was an amazing local festival with people dancing through the streets in colourful costumes…amazing! Also, had some of the best steak ever in Cusco

Instead of the 3 day Inca trek we chose to take the train. The train ride was awesome as it winds through the Andes before eventually arriving in Aguas Calientes, the village nearest to Macchu Picchu. Aguas Calientes by machu pichu is a horrid place but you'll probably end up staying there the night if you do Machu Pichu so head for the hot springs if you do. If you take the train, instead of the trek, get on the first bus up to MP which leaves at 5:30 am but get there for at least 4:45 as queue is always very long.

Bolivia

Lake TutucacaLake Titicaca is better on Bolivian side especially if you can afford to stay at Coca Cobana. It’s good to get to the little island of Isla del Sol on the lake where you can stay the night and do some short treks across the island. La Paz rocks and is worth at least 3 days. Do the bus tour on day 1 to find out why the women wear bowler hats.

Sala de Uni is THE most moving place in the world. I came way from this place feeling spiritually enriched and will never forget it.

We chose a 5 day tour, instead of the standard 3 day which was more expensive but gets you away form all the other tourists doing the same routes. I would say
a 4 day tour would be optimum.
