4x4 up the Skeleton Coast
Namibia is the second most sparsely populated country on the planet.
It is a world unto itself. A road trip here is a truly unforgettable experience;
From bizarre moonscape vistas, to vast
red dunes, endless horizons to ghost towns
drowning in sand, Namibia is adventure
from top to bottom.
The best way to see Namibia is by 4x4 (or motorcycle). Although 99% of the country is barren, wild, wilderness Windhoek (the capital) is well set up for hiring out 4x4’s with all the kit you will need, roof tents, cookers, fridge, jerry cans. Take one of these for a 2 week drive around the country and you will be in for some serious fun. Camping wild is one of the highlights, with stars that spread from Horizon to horizon, and not another person for hundreds of miles, you couldn’t feel further away from the strains of city life.
Top places to visit in your jeep.
- Soussevlei for some of the worlds largest dunes
- The skelton coast for eerie solitude
- Etosha park for lots of lions
- Fish River for trekking in the worlds 2nd largest canyon
- Spitzkoppe for ancient rock art, magical rock formations and awesome camping.
A word of warning
Namibia is a truly wild country, if you do decide to drive on your own, be sure to always carry enough food and water to last you a few days, decent maps and GPS. It is also very wise to have some experience in driving off road, changing tyres, etc. Also don’t forget the wildlife, elephants, Lions and Rhinos all live in Namibia, so be careful where you camp.
